I remember when Beck decided it would be cool to start incorporating 8-bit sounds. It felt weird to hear something I experienced firsthand being appropriated: they came for funk and I said nothing, and when they came for NES nostalgia, there was no one left to speak up. If Beck helped spread the idea, though, then I only have him to thank for this wonderful 8-bit version of “Welcome to the Jungle.” Limiting a song’s sounds to unmodulated waveforms flattens everything out in it, reducing the appeal almost purely to melody—a real test of a song’s tunefulness. The Guns N’ Roses classic holds up fantastically. [YouTube via Gabe]

I demand a new DOUBLE DRAGON (or, in a pinch, FINAL FIGHT) game using only 8-bit GnR songs as its soundtrack.
This is better than anything on Chinese Democracy.
