Is Kelly Clarkson Being Forced Into Katy Perry’s Cast-Offs?

After all the speculation regarding Kelly Clarkson’s “My Life Would Suck Without You,” word from my tipsters—as well as the folks at Popjustice—is that it sounds pretty much exactly like “Since U Been Gone,” only minus anything resembling a bridge. In further “let’s stick with what works” news, MJ’s Big Blog is hinting that the above Katy Perry track, “Long Shot,” might be one of the songs on the album. There is one good thing about this little piece of news—which is way too reminiscent of the whole “rejected Avril Lavigne songs” flap that surfaced around the release of My December— and it is the fact that Perry’s vocals on the verses remind me of a way mannered take on the far superior “Go” by the British band Kaito. A clip of that is after the jump.

Kaito “Go”

What a good band they were.

Also, by request, here’s that Clive Davis interview with the snippet of “Suck” buried in the background:

How much money is Universal Records spending on all these godawful Erin McCarley banner ads on every music blog on the internets?

  2. Something seems off when the post quotes something saying the Clarkson single is 145 bpm. What is it, a happy hardcore track?

ok, first of all, of COURSE it was going to sound just like “since u been gone” if this is her big comeback/return to clive sorta thing. And that should be ok, because don’t we love since u been gone? Maybe we just don’t want 2 of it (not counting the numerous knockoffs artists like pink have already done).

as for that katy perry song, gawd she sucks, I hope that isn’t true, she is the absolute worst.

Actually, the Kelly album is rumored to include two rejected Katy Perry songs: “Long Shot” and a track called “Hook Up.”

First of all nether kelly clarkson or katy perry “write” there songs, lukasz gottwold wrote lyrics/melody for them as well as pink, so its no surprise that they sound the same. If people don’t like it maybe she should learn to play musical instruments so she doesn’t have to rely on hired help, lukasz has written for weezer, Avril Lavigne, Pink, Katy Perry, Britney Spears etc. in the past year alone! while kelly clarkson has done nothing.

@withoutacause: Maybe Lukasz Gottwold should learn to sing and/or get hot so he/she doesn’t have to rely on hired help.

@K-Rex: Lukasz Gottwald actually is kind of hot.

honestly, I’m more distracted by the science of selling a song these days than the fact that Katy Perry sounded like a wounded goat for the duration of that song.

I can tolerate her honestly, but, that…that was ear rape.

As for Kelly not being a songwriter per se ( insert ironic south park vampire kids here)she contributed to many of the tracks on Breakaway, re-writing a Christina Aguilera track for herself. Getting cast off tracks is common place and honestly if it weren’t for the songwriter guru bank sitting in the majors, we wouldn’t have a third of the music in mainstream radio. Interestingly enough, Butch Walker wasn’t named on the hitmaker list, he’s written for Avril, Fallout Boy, Pink, Kelly and dozens of other acts…on top of being an artist.
