Former Ash guitarist Charlotte Hatherley, whose 2007 album The Deep Blue was soaked in post-punk smarts and powerpop spunk, is releasing a new album, Cinnabar City, in the imminent future. According to the release, Cinnabar was recorded in a week, with Charlotte once again tackling all the guitars, and “flits between prog-pop, pop-punk and electro-junk”; in case you’re unfamiliar with her solo work, start with the shimmering “Behave” (above) and then go here to continue your schooling. Man, between this bit of news and my Dan-aided discovery of The Joy Formidable, today is shaping up to be a very, very good day. [Charlotte Hatherley/ YouTube; HT Matthew Perpetua]

Very excited for this one. “Behave” is up there as one of my favorite songs by anybody, and The Deep Blue was a pretty fantastic record. Let’s keep the good vibes going and find Kid Sister a solid release date.
Does Charlotte’s stuff get released stateside, or should I just get the imports?
@Mike P.: one or both albums is on emusic, if you happen to be a subscriber.
