The full list of albums proposed for the new round of 33 1/3 books has been posted to the series’ official blog, and it’s an interesting group! Besides the obvious choices, you’ll find things like a Wilco album that hasn’t been released yet, Garth Brooks’ Chris Gaines album, and a volume of Now That’s What I Call Music! Most striking are the albums that received multiple submissions: four for Duran Duran’s Rio, seven (!) for Slint’s Spiderland. At the end of the day, the writer probably matters more than the album, but this list represents at least some of what writers think you might want to read about. [33 1/3]

Every time they go and canvas submissions I get really excited at all the albums being covered and then…and then…it turns out only a few books are actually worth a damn.

Still, a Free To Be You and Me book has to happen.

You know what would be funny, if they published 7 different Slint books, or all 5 of the Exhile in Guyville proposals.

That being said, I think an X book would be great, especially Los Angeles.

Interesting to see a couple proposals for Metallica’s black album, but for my money I think a book about And Justice For All would be the best read of any potential Metallica 33 1/3rd. Hell, a Load one could be really interesting in the right hands too. Time to get out the ol’ proposal writin’ pen, I guess.

No MERRIWEATHER POST PAVILION proposal? Come on, guys!

I’d really like to see “Marquee Moon,” “Odessey and Oracle,” and one of the X books come to fruition.

I was surprised/pleased to see that two of the three titles I considered pitching didn’t make the list. And one was a title with multiple submissions. So either I’m completely out of touch, or completely revolutionary. Next year ya’ll. I swear I’ll submit.

I’d really like to read about “The Mollusk”

I’m one of three Kid As — WHO ARE THE OTHERS? (Be interesting if we all took the same angle.)

    violent femmes. Make it happen!

They almost had two pitches for the first Danzig album, but as in previous years, I failed to get my shit together in time. Oh, well.

@Audif Jackson Winters III: Glasvegas made it, though.

And four different proposals for four different Mountain Goats albums. Which makes for four books I bet I’d never want to read.

Someone finally pitched August and Everything After.

@unperson: I would very much like to read that.

  14. natepatrin  |   Posted on Jan 12th, 2009

@bcapirigi: What if it was written by a guy who was institutionalized as a teenager?

  15. Diglett  |   Posted on Jan 12th, 2009

@Dickdogfood: I proposed something entirely unrelated, but I’m so with you on the Free To Be You And Me. I hope that person is a genius.

I wish I was ballsy enough to pull of writing about “Sports.”

  17. galactus5000  |   Posted on Jan 13th, 2009

@natepatrin: Or, better yet, what if it wasn’t written by a guy who was institutionalised as teenager, but only played one on TV.

Hey, three non-lazy people also had my This Is Hardcore idea. Awesome!

Too bad I only heard about this opportunity the day before the deadline, I could have put in a proposal for a book on Felt’s “Forever Breathes the Lonely Word” that only me and one other person in the world would buy.
