Electronics retailer Circuit City announced that it would be closing and liquidating the remainder of its stores (567 in the U.S.), resulting in some 30,000 job losses across the country and lots of big “everything must go” sales. (Presumably since the whole chain is going under, the pickings will be a little less lean than the flop-heavy offerings Lucas stumbled across when he went to an earlier CC going out of business sale.) Man, between this and the forthcoming Times Square Virgin Megastore clearance sale, the average price of an album is going to plummet over the next few months! (Silver linings, people.) [Marketwatch]

oooh, exciting! i mean, i know it won’t be like the days when Tower closed, but still - maybe i’ll finally pickup that janet jackson cd for $3!
Papa’s getting a new set of speakers!
The one closest to my house was ransacked months ago. It’s not even worth going back. I’d say it’s a shame, but… I never got anything at Circuit City. Ever. I mean, the jobs lost are certainly a huge shame, but on a personal level, I don’t care.
And since I now notice who wrote this… Maura, holy shit. Incredible. And that uber-fan front row center who she interacted with a few times? That was totally me. What are the odds I’d be nuts on the Internet and nuts in real life, yet self-aware enough to realize both? Anyway, holy shit. Next time Ida’s in America, you better believe I’m seeing her again- hopefully for a much longer set.
And Those Darlins were so… average. All of their songs sounded the same, and there was nothing to distinguish them from a million other acts one could generally describe as “alt-country”.
But the sad reality is that so far, the “sales” at Circuit City have been, well, not so much:
