According to Ron Wood, the hyperactive Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist is going to fill in for the deceased Lane when the Faces reunite for upcoming recordings and tours. (Yes, recordings; apparently Wood and Rod Stewart took a “mini world tour” to Costa Rica, Bermuda, and Miami, where they allegedly wrote an album’s worth of material in between stints of living it up.) Well, I guess since you can’t spell “faces” without f, e, and a, this is a capital idea? I’m sure Rod will be really into Flea’s sartorial choices. UPDATE (22 Jan 09, 15:45 ET: Flea and Rod are denying all of it.) [MusicRadar]
Can You Picture Flea As The New Ronnie Lane?

Look out below: BASS SOLO!
No. Please no.
@owenmeany: Yeah, he’s good, but it just makes me nervous that he’d throw some slap bass in at the end of “Stay With Me”.
@doublewhiskycokenoice: Rod Stewart has the best rock voice ever.
Ugh. UGH. Look, I like RHCP. But if Faces must bother reuniting without Ronnie (I wish they wouldn’t) then Flea’s a terrible choice.
The problem is, some of the best Faces material was written by Lane. I don’t think Flea can make up for that.
I interviewed a member of the band a few days ago, and I can tell you that if the reunion happens it’s not going to be Flea.
Who would be a better fill-in?
Flea is a bad-ass bassist.
Let’s give him a chance…
People said the same thing when Watt was selected to be the bassist of The Stooges…too busy…
Heck…I wish Lane was still alive…what a talent…
BTW
The Small Faces and The Faces were both great bands…
So was Humble Pie!
Rock on…
The Small Faces > The Faces
“Come On Children” is the jam of jams.
I don’t really have a problem with Flea joining the band…
…it’s more an issue of the band reuniting at all.
Leave well enough alone, fellas.
Any number of people would be better. Why do they have to go with a name?
this gets me to thinking, i really do wish I knew what I know now, when i was younger.
