Fall Out Boy Turns Yellow

Though I haven’t watched a new episode of The Simpsons in a few years-–a fact that makes me more sorta sad as owner of the first 10 seasons on DVD-–I’m excited to hear that the show is keeping the tradition of guest musicians recording alternate takes of (Oscar nominee) Danny Elfman’s seminal theme song. Joining the ranks of NRBQ, Green Day, Sonic Youth, and Yo La Tengo (whose version I loved) is today’s Live With Regis and Kelly musical act Fall Out Boy. The preview clip sounds like they thrashed through the song while overlaying pretty vocal harmonies on top… kind of like they do with all of their songs.



Seeing as we’re talking Matt Groening-related media here (haha, his Web site remains under construction a decade after “launch”), it’s always helpful to revisit Life In Hell’s list of Forbidden Words. I still use some of them way too much—in fact, looking at this list, I was thoroughly shamed by the A’s (”awesome,” “And I’m Like…”).

    Also i wonder if we could get through a whole day on Idolator without using any of the words in that list. Not that I ever use “It’s all good,” anyway, but.

    Dude, same here! My wife and I made a pact that we’d stop buying the DVD boxes after Season 10, and we no longer watch the new episodes piling up on our TiVo. I hate being one of those snobby old-fart types, but it really is true that the show’s been near-worthless since at least 2002, if not earlier.

    @Chris Molanphy: That’s a pretty popular opinion, but I have to disagree. I can’t tell you it’s like the glory years of seasons 4-6, when the show walked on water and turned water into wine, but I still watch when it pops up on my DVR and I think it’s consistently pretty funny, especially the “Homer episodes.” That’s something not a lot of shows can say, particularly after like 20 years on the air or whatever it is. Give it another chance sometime — if only for nostalgia — it’s hit or miss, but when it hits I still really enjoy it.

    I think the movie re-energized the series. Some of the eps in the 07-08 season were the best in years, imo.
