I think the problem with Modern Rock is they play old hits way too much. It's like they're stuck in the 90s. Besides the Foo Fighters and Saving Abel (I think my station plays them a lot cause they're locals) I never hear any of the songs that make the top 10.

@LeBron: I've only heard the Paramore one, the Airborne Toxic Event one and the Kings of Leon one. I think i've heard that Offspring song twice, but I forgot how it goes.

@owenmeany: The chart's. Just wait a while until the new Franz Ferdinand gets into the top 10 (it's a #20 right now, I believe).

The first time I heard that Kelly Clarkson song I was kind of like, "ehhhhh...it sounds too much like a 'Since U Been Gone'/Katy Perry mashup." But on about the 4th listen, it burrowed itself into my brain and I can't stop listening to it. Catchy stuff.

@owenmeany: Nah, it's not just you -- the only one I know any of is Incubus. I've heard the Paramore song twice or so.

The Airborne Toxic Event is in the Top 10 of the Modern Rock Tracks chart? It's pretty damn rare for an actual alternative song to be in the Top 10 if its not by The Killers, Death Cab for Cutie or Kings of Leon.

For the first time in (I think) a long time, I can hardly hum hooks of three Modern Rock-charting songs. Is it my fault or the chart's?

@drinkypuss: Seven weeks at #1 (and the Offspring track was #1 for the previous 11 weeks before that. Slow modern rock chart is sloooooow.

Also, the All-American Rejects now have their biggest hit ever, chartwise. I...didn't see that one coming.

I believe this Kelly Clarkson song has the "It" factor that "Since U Been Gone" had -- it's just a fun song to listen to. I dig it. I'll make some room in the IPod right after Ill Bill and Jedi Mind Tricks.

Side note: Incubus' "Love Hurts" has been my jam for a while. Light Grenades: highly underrated album, IMO.

@Chris Molanphy: I honestly think the production and hook render the (inane) lyrics totally irrelevant to the song. It's just a solid-gold instrumental (though I will say that the one good thing about the Katy Perry vocal is the growling echo in the second verse).
