What could possibly be the best part of this account of a launch party for Prince’s new Web site, lotusflow3r.com, which took place in the wee hours of yesterday at The Purple One’s house? The Anita Baker cameo? The somewhat gramatically awkward, yet still incredible detail that Prince wore “shoes that lighted up with red lights with each step”? Nah, it has to be the list of covers, which included the Cars’ “Let’s Go,” the Rolling Stones, “Miss You,” Mary J. Blige’s “Be Happy,” and Rick James’ “Give It To Me Baby,” which Prince weaved into his own “Let’s Work.” (The aforementioned site also has three new songs streaming from it, and if you sign up for e-mail updates, you get told that “U R In The System.” Well, let’s hope this means my invite won’t get lost in the mail next time.) So Prince got some LA Lights by LA Gear??? I don’t see the big deal…i had some of those sneakers in the 1990s.
“…and Rick James’ “Give It To Me Baby,” which Prince weaved into his own “Let’s Work.”"
This right here just blows my mind. Holy shit.
@Tauwan: Amen to that!

Suite Songs
@Tauwan: The two songs are even contemporaneous (both vintage 1981 radio-funk), which further shows what a good record nerd Prince is.

See, I was hoping it would tell you, “Till I find the righteous 1, Computer Blue.” Or maybe that’s what it says when there’s a system error…?
I want to hear Prince in a 3 piece band, no keyboards, just guitar, bass and drums. I would possibly perhaps might maybe try to pay to see that.
I hope a basketball game broke out…Was Charlie Murphy there?
@juiceandgin: There’s a bootleg floating around called The Undertaker, which is a set of him and Michael B (NPG) and I can’t recall who was on bass.
