A new Lil Wayne mixtape is out, featuring more of his nu-metal songs. It’s not all bad news, though. There’s also the excellent “Yes,” with Pharrell. “Blow My Mind,” aka “Red Rum,” has a nice Cool & Dre beat. And “New Orleans Maniac,” the one with the Bangladesh-produced “Diva” beat, turns out to be pretty great. On the other hand, there’s also a piano ballad. Called “Piano Man.” Our reaction follows.
maura: listen to ‘piano man’
maura: o_O
Mike: I kind of like it
Mike: oh wait
Mike: no
Mike: the chorus
Mike: ow
Mike: owwwww
maura: yeah.

“excellent” is not the word I would use to the describe Pharrell’s hilariously embarrassing Wayne impression
That almost looks like a Mad Magazine parody of a Limp Bizkit album cover.
That exchange between Mike and Maura is classic!

@Audif Jackson Winters III: admittedly, i was hoping that it was a billy joel cover when i first heard it late saturday night, so there was no way i wasn’t going to be let down. (i may have been semi-zonked on alcoholic milkshakes at the time.) but … yeesh. yeah.
And I think it’s safe to say the “Piano Man” chorus was directly inspired by T-Baby’s inner city classic “It’s so Cold in The D”–both songs I’m loathe to say I kind of love, in that ‘oh no s/he didn’t!!’ kind of way…

I’m beginning to think that rappers aren’t using auto-tune and that rappers are just actually becoming cyborgs.
Auto tune is being over-used, its not even funny to listen to it anymore.
