The Langerado Festival—which was set to take place in Miami next month, with Thievery Corporation, Death Cab For Cutie, and Snoop Dogg as headliners, and which just bolstered its lineup with Modest Mouse and Deerhunter last week—has been canceled. The terse statement on the front page of the festival’s official Web site is mum as far as an explanation goes, but there’s a more rounded-out statement hidden within the official Langerado blog:
The 2009 Langerado Music Festival has been cancelled due to sluggish ticket sales.
Langerado’s independent local promoters, faced with a very tough decision in a dismal economy, cancelled the 2009 event only after every possible option was exhausted.
As Langerado Co-Promoter Ethan Schwartz explains, “Langerado has always put the fan experience first. Unfortunately, during these difficult economic times, and facing a first year in a new venue, it’s become apparent that we cannot execute a production that lives up to the high standards of our past events. Putting Langerado on hold was the toughest decision we have ever had to make. We are very grateful for the support of the greater-Miami community and the music community during this difficult time.”
On the bright side, this will help the festival’s greening initiative.

And so the fests begin to fall. Any predictions on which will be next?
Do they still do that one at both minor league ballparks in New York? It was called Between the Narrows or something? What about the one in Jersey that Radiohead headlined last year? Actually, I gotta think everything but Bonnaroo, Coachella, Lollapalooza and ATP is pretty much doomed.
@DJorn: Austin City Limits is probably safe, too.
@JZ13: RS was reporting that Pemberton (the Live Nation-produced festival in British Columbia) also announced that it was taking a year off, but I haven’t seen any confirmation of that. I guess they were hoping to bury the news in the wake of the Juno nominations…
