The Dum Dum Girls Are All Lickety-Split

The recent resurgence of the styles accustomed with the mid-’80s indiepop underground scene has resulted in a fair amount of hype, some of it perfectly pitched, some of it that’s way too off-the-charts for music with such modest slash rudimentary ancestors. And so we come to the Dum Dum Girls, the nom du C86 of a Los Angeles resident who goes solely by the name Dee Dee. The feel is sort of “scratchy Girls In The Garage LPs blaring out of a super-deep well,” which is kind of interesting, given that the project’s named after a fairly tarted-up Talk Talk track.

Anyway, the free-downloads-every-day site RCRD LBL has what’s probably my favorite track from the Dum Dums’ now out-of-print debut EP, “Catholicked.” Fans of the rave-up stylings of Talulah Gosh and The Flatmates will probably find a lot to like about this raucous little song.
