The Bad Brains Documentary: Finally, A Way To Bring Ian MacKaye Together With Lil Jon

The documentary on the legendary hardcore band Bad Brains, which was apparently shot in part while promoting their 2007 album Build A Nation, isn’t quite finished yet, but the filmmakers have slapped the above trailer onto their MySpace page, as well as a call for archival footage and material from the band’s history. Surely someone in this crowd must have something usable, right? Or at the very least know who, exactly, can license Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air clips? [MySpace via Paste]

Looks interesting, of course. I read the book Dance of Days a few years back, and it kind of made me look at this band differently. Not in a good way, really.

@OokieDookie: I would like to see that, yes.

@MayhemintheHood: Maybe because they were kinda jerks? Listen, I know I’m supposed to love the Bad Brains and stuff, but I’ve never been able to tolerate them in any capacity, as persons or musicians.

How can anyone not like Bad Brains? It’s akin to not liking pastry. I just don’t get it.

@encyclopediablack: Man, listen, I have tried. As host of a punk show at my college radio station it was my sworn duty. And I just didn’t like them!

Looks promising. I dig the Brains.

As for the guys themselves, the accusations of homophobia against them are disturbing. On the other hand, über-fans and collaborators Henry Rollins and the Beastie Boys, respectively, are not exactly down with gay bashing, so…I dunno.

I’ve never read Dance of Days, but ‘holier than thou, ultra PC posturing’ is a complaint I’ve frequently come across, in reference to that book.

Instead of archival footage, could I submit a college newspaper article where Darryl Jenifer proceeds to spend an entire interview hitting on a 20-year-old editor/former mentee if mine?

@Lucas Jensen: Damn, that exclamation point shows you mean business. Oh well, to each his own.
