Last night’s sorta-oddly music-heavy Saturday Night Live featured an appearance by “Bjork,” who was really Kristen Wiig doing that hands-covering-awkward-facial expressions thing that she does in way too many sketches while talking about Iceland’s economy. So annoying! But… if you didn’t look at Wiig’s mugging (or very unfortunate “weird” outfit that looked like it was a leftover from a 1993 sketch about Contempo Casuals), she actually kind of sounded like the bewitching singer at points, especially at the beginning of her musical ode to the country’s recent fiscal woes. Clip after the jump.
Also, how about Jason Sudeikis channeling Eric Martin’s ad-libbing during that “dudes bond over creepy times and singalongs” sketch? The Mr. Big revival is going to be so awesome, you guys.
Update: Bjork [Hulu]

The pie chart was funny.
Whatev. I love Kristen Wiig. And she was so spot on with Bjork last night. She’s the last funny thing on SNL these days.
This is proof that no matter what she does, no matter what records she makes, no matter how ambitious her stage shows get, no matter how amusing her videos will be, no matter what collaborators she choses, Björk’s public image in America is never ever ever ever ever ever going to progress much beyond the “Big Time Sensuality” video and the swan dress. And since I’m not fond of her, this tickles me to no end.
I don’t know why they don’t just ask Björk to show up and talk about what’s on her mind on weekend update. Much more entertaining than any parody of her could ever be.
@Bjork Rhymes With Pork: @Maura Johnston: I’m with you guys. I’ve been waiting for the Kristen Wiig backlash to begin. Its not that I don’t think she’s funny, because I do actually, its just that every character of her’s seems exactly the same. SNL is the perfect show to demonstrate comedic “range,” but I just don’t see it coming from her.
It’s like she has heard Bjork’s voice once, but otherwise knows absolutely nothing about her. I just didn’t see where the “insight” or “humor” or “commentary” or “something that was interesting” was in that bit, at all.
she’s one of my highlight as far as it goes for SNL. The song was win
That song ruled.
I’ve given her enough rope, but seriously: what’s the big deal with Kristen Wiig? Not only is she boring and unfunny, but also seems sort of smug. How is that a winning combination with nerds everything? Je ne comprends pas.
@Bjork Rhymes With Pork: beats me, dude. i think she is a half-trick pony as far as her “comedy” goes. (although if einar from the sugarcubes ever wants to start a cover band, he should give her a call.)
