The Los Angeles hip-hop trio JJ Fad got back into the studio for the first time since the Reagan administration over the weekend, apparently in preparation for the reissue of their 1988 album Supersonic and a tour with the almost-reunited Fat Boys. While I’m all for people maybe learning just where Fergie’s “Fergalicious” acquired all of its halfway listenable aspects, I’m adopting a wait and see approach as far as new material goes—Supersonic co-producer Dr. Dre is quoted in the press announcement as saying that 50 Cent and Eminem would “bring some new school fire for these old school ladies” in the near future, and both of those dudes seem like the exactly wrong thing to add in this case. Stay strong, girls. [Hip Hop Press / YouTube]

What are they, like 70 now?
The phrase “old school ladies” is screaming for a hyphen … somewhere.
See, if Dre — just Dre — did production work, he could bring an old-school Michel’le vibe to this, no sweat. It’s the Em/Fitty references that are worrying and unnecessary.
@Chris Molanphy: The idea of a Dre-produced Michel’le vibe for J.J. Fad gives me shivers of pleasure. If we’re lucky, Slim and Fifty will be on one song, preferably a “We’re All in the Same Gang”-style medley.
