Another name left out of the Grammys’ “In Memoriam” montage: Dave Matthews Band saxophonist LeRoi Moore, who passed away last August. Given the Dave Matthews Band’s stature (not to mention its cash-generation ability), this only further adds to my questions about just how the Grammy producers figure out who “rate” a mention during the package. I was surprised by this as well – I’m not a fan of the DMB and only have a passing familiarity with their music, but Leroi Moore was a recognizable member of one of the most popular acts of the last 15 years.
I didn’t see Yma Sumac either.
Or Davy Graham, Merl Saunders, Dennis Yost, Jerry Finn, Artie Traum, Larry Levine, Dee Dee Warwick, Jeff Healey, or Nathaniel Mayer. If Static Major or the singer from the Dave Clark Five qualify, shouldn’t any – or all – of these be included?

(static major did appear on one of the album of the year nominees.)
Static Major won a Grammy yesterday. He should’ve been there. With that said, Moore should have, also. I hate DMB, but I can’t deny how big they are in the music industry. Were there other pretty big omissions? Sure, but I think he’s one of the biggest.
Thierry pointed out some glaring omissions. I know time’s an issue but it seemed like they whipped through the “in memoriam” list rather quickly. We acknowledge your life and career with a 0.5 second glimpse.
I was surprised they included the guy from People!. But then, I also had no idea that the guy from People! was “the founder of Christian rock.” Crazy!

@Thierry: Yeah, somehow I didn’t realize that was the same guy until I heard the clip of “I Love You” during the In Memoriam…
