Your Guide To This Week’s Three Big Ramones Memes

In honor of—oh, lets just say the 20th anniversary of Pet Semetary—-here are three Ramones memes making the rounds. In the spirit of their three-chords, fast-and-loose, gone-in-two-minutes style, I only picked memes that were made as hastily as this post. In fact some of these memes are so crappy that I’m kind of suspicious that it might even be making fun of memes themselves and the people (read: me) who so hungrily consume them like pancakes off of a rabbit’s head. I’m sure that last sentence ties into something Greil Marcus one said about punk and situationism, but 11 a.m. is early for me. So:

1. The Ramones With Lead Guitar
Yes, it’s an easy gag. Yes, it was probably made in the 29 minutes it takes to listen to a Ramones album. But the entire first Ramones album played with some dude wheedling away into what sounds like his laptop’s direct input made me smile. It made me smile in a way that made me realize that most of the best L.A. spandex rock bands of the ’80s (Poison, et al) were just dudes playing Ramones songs with some sad dude wheedling away in the front. 2. The Ramones Love It!
Two seconds of audio proves that “Blitzkrieg Bop” was a really a soda commercial. Not to be confused with the actual beer commercial that ruined “Blitzkrieg Bop” for a generation. [YTMND]

3. Ramones Legos
OK, I like this Lego version of “Rock And Roll High School.” I’m only human. [YouTube]

Ramones Jacket Is Off the Block, for Now
The online auction house offered a sweat-soaked gem from punk’s New York glory years — the black leather jacket worn by the Ramones drummer Marky Ramone during his first stint with the band. But the drummer cried foul, calling the jacket a fake.
Auction pulls jacket after Marky Ramone questions its authenticity
A black jacket that belonged to Marky Ramone of The Ramones has been pulled from an auction because Ramone questions whether it was ever his. The jacket is signed "Marky Ramone" on the back in gold ink, and bidding through RRAuction had reached $3,100.

Ramones with Lead Guitar is genius – I’m actually surprised no one (including myself) had thought of it before. It sounds like rather awesome prog to me…

That YTMND is truly a mondegreen for the ages.

Wait, did he just call Poison one of the best rock bands of the 80’s?

You neglected to mention the actual cell phone commercial that ruined “Blitzkrieg Bop” for a generation.

    Thank you for the “memes.”

Ramones with lead guitar is dreck.

Wow. I can’t decide if Ramones with Lead Guitar is my new bestest favorite thing ever, or if it’s an affront to everything I hold dear.

    Maybe both.

    Nobody’s said, “Rameems,” yet, huh?

Okay. Well, I just did. Yay.
