For all the cynicism about “creating an image,” doing so really just means that an artist understands her own work well enough to put it in a proper visual context. Fever Ray is the solo project of Karin Dreijer, who in her work with the Knife has never had a problem nailing that act’s particular appeal, from shiny to dark. Fever Ray is nothing if not cinematic, and the images in the video for “When I Grow Up”—of twilight, water, edges, and hidden violence—work to create a particular emotional effect.
