Please, Please Let Adam Lambert Channel Celine Dion Tonight

American Idol insider blog Joesplace has a list of rumored song choices for tonight’s episode of American Idol, in which 12 more semifinalists put themselves up to be loved by the nation while Paula Abdul quietly stews about the four-judge format and Simon Cowell tries to stay awake. Is the oh-so-theatrical Adam Lambert maybe going to go all-out out of the gate by singing “All By Myself”? Yes. Is some other poor schlub going to basically declare that he has zero chance of making it to the next round by turning himself into Chad Kroeger for 90 seconds? Apparently! Click for the full list.

Adam Lambert: “All By Myself” (Eric Carmen/Celine Dion)
Nick Mitchell: “Crying” (Roy Orbison)
Matt Breitzke:”How Am I Supposed to Live Without You” (Laura Branigan/Michael Bolton)
Kai Kalama: “Lean on Me” (Bill Withers/Club Nouveau)
Kris Allen: “How You Remind Me” (Nickelback)
Matt Giraud: “Viva La Vida” (Coldplay)
Jeanine Vailes: “Love Will Lead You Back” (Taylor Dayne)
Allison Iraheta: “Total Eclipse of the Heart” (Bonnie Tyler)
Meghan Corkrey: “Nothing Compares 2 U” (Prince/Sinéad O’Connor)
Jesse Langseth: “You Needed Me” (Anne Murray)
Mishavonna Henson: “With or Without You” (U2)
Jasmine Murray: “Love Song” (Sara Bareilles)

An odd list, for sure. (Good to see Jasmine Murray sucking up to Kara’s suggestion that someone sing Sara Bareilles—that girl’s going to go far!) Although I’m glad someone’s representing for Taylor Dayne, whose vocal prowess was always underrated.

Oh, also, Simon Cowell hinted that the singers brought back for the Wild Card round may in fact be singers who were dinged from the Top 36. I swear if this is a way for the producers to gin up more Danny Gokey-related drama (his pal Jamar Rogers, you may recall, didn’t make the post-Hollywood Week cut) I am going to be so pissed.

'American Idol' Recap: Hollywood Hell Week
Welcome back to American Idol. I know you didn't sleep a wink last night because you were so worried about poor little Symone Black, who was so overcome by nerves or illness or clumsiness that she fell off the stage creating the first-ever Idol ...

I really don’t need to hear “Lean On Me” again in my life.

  2. fabulousrobots  |   Posted on Feb 25th, 2009

So excited for Adam Lambert and I can’t wait to vote for him all night. I am still kicking myself for spending an hour on Alexis last week when I could have been voting for Anoop.
The Taylor Dane choice also made me happy, I don’t feel she has been as appreciated as she should be. I loved her in elementary school.
Why do people keep doing “Total Eclipse” on this damn show? STOP IT.

Speaking of “Total Eclipse of the Heart,” the second video on this week’s Flight of the Conchords (with Kristen Wiig) was a total Bonnie Tyler/Jim Steinman homage:

Oh, and as long as I’m on this topic, the first video from the episode was an R. Kelly homage (apparently the Usher duet “Same Girl”):

@Chris Molanphy: I thought the same thing about both videos.

Also, Harry Nilsson never covered “All By Myself”, as far as I know – I’m assuming the person who wrote this list was thinking of “Without You”.

Allison Iraheta is one of my personal favorites, and she may do “Total Eclipse” some justice is she can reign it in.

Why does Matt Giraud wanna sing Coldplay?

  6. brasstax  |   Posted on Feb 25th, 2009

@brasstax: Ooh, she changed songs and KILLED IT! I knew I liked her.

If the dialidol results are anything to go by, Adam is the highest vote getter of last night.

DUDE. Adam straight killed it tonight.

Also, BTW, and I’m sure you don’t need me to tell you this, but don’t bother to rely on this obviously misinformed “source” in the future. Only two of the “predictions” came to fruition. That leads me to believe that the “source” has some extended connection to someone who knows someone who has an uncle who used to be married to… in the Idol universe, but is not close enough to the action to have any really interesting info.

@Rob Murphy: speculation is always fun. and judging by some of the band’s performances, maybe this *was* the song list until the very last minute!

Did you catch Matt watching Adam’s performance from the balcony above? He looked pissed, bwah ha ha!

Normund Gentle is one of the most beautiful creatures I have ever witnessed on this earth.

I feel like everyone I know already sang last week. Oh, what surprises tonight holds!

The With or Without You choice is a bit dubious.

  14. Even if there is no deterrence, just keeping them away from others for a while will certainly cut down on the problems.I tend to place a lot of blame on socioeconomic circumstances (and culture) too, but until we have a better science of psychology, some sort of punishment (or the threat of it) is still neccessary.

Sarah Afshar is the female Adam Lambert.
