When I was editing <i>Metal Edge</i>, we bought some Metallica photos from a photographer who'd shot them in Romania for the <i>Times</i>. Just cause the photo credit says "[Name Here] for the New York Times" doesn't mean the photographer's an employee. He/she is more often than not a freelancer, and therefore free to sell his/her unused images anywhere at all.</p> It’s got nothing to do with the paper and everything to do with the photographer.
