Come August, jukebox maker Rowe is shutting down its plant in Grand Rapids, Mich., and moving the operation to Mexico. The company was founded in Chicago in 1909, but moved to Grand Rapids soon after where the company has produced more than a million jukeboxes. The new factory will be in Reynosa, a city located just across the Texas border. Sure, this seems like a slightly better move for the company than shutting down entirely, but as I see fewer and fewer jukeboxes (even of the Internet-enabled variety) around, there might not be much life left in the business at all.
