Angus & Julia Stone Had Me At “Australian Brother & Sister Act”

As far as press releases and promo sheets go, I’m a remarkably easy person to please. If the act being pushed upon me any particular day involves siblings, the disc moves to the top of the pile. (I spent a solid three months convinced I liked the Magic Numbers!) And the Angus & Julia Stone disc that hit American stores yesterday, A Book Like This, is just full of charm.

The male/female harmonies are stunning, the songs are good, and Julia reminds me of Karen from the Innocence Mission, which is a big plus. Not that it makes much difference in whether the album is any good or not, but the act’s music videos are actually well made and interesting, which seems somewhat rare these days.

As did I. Although, I do remember their first album being way better than the the second.

@Little Lebowski Urban Achiever: I think you’re right thinking that, but I’m certainly not going back to find out.

Being Australian, I’ve known about them for a while, but never really got into them… maybe because Julia sounds like Joanna Newsom to my ears?
