Dear Prince, re your performance of “Dreamer” on last night’s installment of The Tonight Show With Jay Leno: Can you maybe get in touch with Lil Wayne and show him how to properly make a rock album? xoxo, Idolator. [YouTube via Soulbounce]

Actually, Lil Wayne needs to watch this clip, and then very quietly and unceremoniously put his guitar in the attic, never to be revisited again.
Every time I see Prince touch a guitar, it never fails to make me happy. That’s how music should sound!

@T’Challa: I’m always a little mystified by the number of people who told me “I didn’t know Prince could really play guitar!” after his Superbowl show…
Also, judging from this, I would say that Prince recently bought a copy of the Black Crowes’ Amorica.
Damn, now that’s a guitar hook!
I sort of feel about this the way I felt the first time (don’t laugh/scoff) I heard Lenny Kravitz’s “Are You Gonna Go My Way?” in 1993. The guy was a punchline before that, but then he delivered this chewy rock hook that kind of quieted the naysayers and made you go, Well, I guess he does have that going for him. (Then he went back to being lame.)
It’s a disgrace for me to compare Prince to Kravitz, but it’s been so long since HRB has tried to do a pure-rock hook like that, I half-forgot he could do it.
@Thierry: He did favor Jealous Again for a while during soundchecks in the early 90′s. And I’m not at all ashamed to know that level of detail…
I like how he gave the guitar away to a dude in the crowd, with the effect still going and then immediately left the stage. No closing pleasantries for you, Jay Leno.
Please forgive me but the mere mention of Lenny Crapitz in a thread on Prince is very distasteful.
Also, any word on where this album will be available in Target-free areas like, say, Canada?
There’s no Targets in Canada?
@MhS:
re: lenny – amen
re: target – how awful for Thierry…
prince is a guitar god – anyone who didn’t know before the super bowl offends me
@MhS: No – and they won’t ship here either.
Yeah, that was the hottest of the 3 performances this week.
That was almost up there with the guitar solo he played during “While my Guitar Gently Weeps” at his induction to the RNR Hall of Fame..
@Thierry: well that sucks
@Thierry: I’m not a fan of the Crowes but I love Amorica.
@MhS: Except that this song’s chorus–right before the hook–sounds a bit like “Are You Gonna Go My Way?”
Well, let’s give some credit to that guy named Jimi Hendrix too, you know.
The Prince on Leno thing rooled, nonetheless.
@mackro:
Yep.
@Thierry: April 27 at HMV. List price is $39.99, but the guy I talked to said it would likely be half that when it hits shelves.
@mackro: Amen.
