Leonard Cohen, as I understand it, has written over a hundred verses of this particular song.
I have many of his CDs — and when I get tired of the same-ol’ same-ol’ of the vast majority of music that is published, he is such a relief providing depth and multiple dimensions to his listeners. He is such a poet and one of the absolute best in his musical arrangements.

@aristoxenus: I always hated that stupid song. I may be the only person in my generation who never bought Grace, although I have now somehow acquired two copies, because, like dogs, they can smell fear.

Also, having aired my anti-Buckley viewpoint in many different venues now, trust me, it's a pretty small backlash.

I’m kind of against the Buckley backlash. His “Hallelujah” really only suffers from overexposure. If you could erase the 412,000 times you’ve heard it and go back to the first listening, it’s still a revelatory and beautiful thing. And then everybody shat on it by putting in every TV show and movie ever. It’s rock foie gras – we’re choking on the thing. It just needs a break.

That said, I loves me the Leonard Cohen and I adore his “Lord of Song” verse.

@MhS: he's talked about it a few times and has been nothing but gracious, as you would expect from Leonard Cohen. When whatshisface (Damien Rice?) played essentially the Buckley version for Cohen's induction into the RnR HoF, Cohen teared up and blew kisses, so there you go.
