Keri Hilson Can Breathe For The First Time

An unnamed member of Keri Hilson’s publicity team has leaked a Timbaland-and-Timberlake produced cover of Kelly Clarkson’s “Since U Been Gone.” It’s pretty decent, if a very different take on the track. I like the multiple Hilsons harmonizing over each other (although there’s some playing around with the notion of harmony that sounds just-off-enough to be jarring even on repeat listens) and I’d be remiss if I didn’t note that the song employs a beat that sounds like the one also backing JT’s still-awesome “Bigger Than The World.” [YouTube]

Agree, it gets killed by overharmony. Do not want.

i think this was played during the timbaland section (AKA intermission) of justin’s future sex/love show tour.

Eh. Can’t tell if that part is really as problematic as it sounds, or if it’s just this crap mix.

I love how Timbaland decided to use his mouth to make all kinds of rhythmic percussion noises. Visionary.

@silkyjumbo: OMG yes! I saw that show, and I do recall a female-fronted version of this song. Good call.

I like this — was actually sorry when it faded out before two minutes were up.

I actually really like this. Would love to hear a longer version and a better mix.

Is there a reason that she needed 12 harmonies? They just aren’t very good. She’d have been better off with two. When you stack problematic vocals on top of one another it becomes a house of cards. The music and main melody are rad.
