Fwiw, Kanye has taken a step in making those of us who admired his talent but were tired of his egotistical ravings take another look at him. I mean, hip-hop braggadocio is a cool thing–we don’t want our rappers to get all sensitive on us, now do we?–but this is a guy who makes Jay-Z seem humble by comparison.

Think about how they’ve treated everyone from Madonna to Bono on the show — if they really despised Kanye, they’d have eviscerated him.

I read the conclusion of that episode as something along the lines of Kanye’s a total douche, but we’ll admit he’s an interesting douche.

I actually totally agree with this, and I’ve been defending Kanye with similar reasoning for years now. I actually got into a pissing match with some guy on a blog once who accused West of being an unforgivable egoist, and I’m like, Dude, this is a rapper we’re talking about…you understand that, right?!

There’s a big part of me that doesn’t want Kanye to learn a thing from this.

Because, let’s face it, self-aggrandizement has fueled his art for years now, and it’s even given him the last laugh over his naysayers. Even me — I was on record ’round these parts last fall thinking “Love Lockdown” and 808s would be his flies-too-close-to-the-sun, hubris moment, and I was wrong, wrong, wrong. The guy’s made four albums, and not one of them’s less than three stars even if you’re being uncharitable. The guy raps *and* sings with one hand tied behind his back, because he’s both a weak singer and a middling-at-best rapper, and somehow — though self-belief? — the end product is brilliant.

Seriously, Kanye, laugh along with Matt and Trey, and then don’t change a thing. We’ve all been wrong about you before.

Good luck, Kanye. Hip Hop is and always has been, about bravado. It is based around the ego, and the false sense of self. It’s why hip hop is SO disposable.

If I were giving this cat advice, here’s what I’d tell him.

1) turn the Caps Lock off. Only douchebags use all caps.

2) take a break from being an MC (always talking and bragging about yourself – again, the true nature of hip hop), and just produce. The phone should be ringing off the hook for your production skills, right?

3) start doing things for other people – do some charity work. Visit a burn ward, man. That’ll flip your whole script around.

4) stop reading tabloids, websites and entertainment gossip. It’s only feeding the beast you’re attempting to slay, and finally,

5) sit down, shut up and talk to whatever God is to you. Humbleness will come.

Can I be Kanye’s life coach;)?

But seriously, good on you Kanye. I suggest a “Gay Fish” mixtape.
