Snoop Dogg’s Wife: Not Dead

Never let it be said that AOL’s pageview/stomach-churning Web site TMZ doesn’t let things like facts get in the way of its stories. Early this morning, the site published a half-literate item insinuating that Shante Broadus, wife of Calvin “Snoop Doggy Dogg” Broadus, was dead in the basement of her house. (There was also punnery.) The source for this claim? An incident report on the California Highway Patrol’s Web site that was so obviously the result of a crank call, it’s not even funny.

“So this is either really funny… or really, really, really messed up,” TMZ wrote underneath its screencap. Deep thoughts, man. And oh, by the way, the site has yet to run a correction:

In the wake of a confusing report on TMZ.com speculating that Snoop Dogg’s wife, Shante Broadus, might be dead – which spread rapidly across the Internet on Friday morning (April 10) – the rapper’s manager dismissed the report to MTV News as “ridiculous.”

Meanwhile, Snoop has a Webcam channel where he shows off his blunt-smoking technique. David Banner stopped by last night! It’s like Dogg After Dark, except with stuff that MTV would never let anyone get away with.

In a just world, TMZ would be driven out of business by the sinking economy.

@brasstax: No way! I need TMZ-TV to get me through the times when I have no internets.

@brasstax: as long as it has aol’s firehose of traffic propping it up, that ain’t gonna happen.

Please refrain from calling TMZ “journalism,” even in jest.

@AquaLung: A rag like the NY Post is staffed with ethical, impartial, erudite scholars compared to TMZ.
