Moby’s forthcoming album Wait For Me was inspired by a talk given by filmmaker David Lynch on creativity and market pressures, so it’s kind of fitting that the first video from the album, “Shot In The Back Of The Head,” was conceived by the meditation enthusiast/weather reporter. The clip is full of sketches that veer a bit toward the literal, but they serve as a fine complement to the woozy, late-night feel of the song and what’s apparently going to be the Sharpie-on-paper aesthetic of the album’s artwork. Lynch twittered about this and brought moby.com down to its knees this afternoon.
Can I just say how glad I am (as an old-school pre-PLAY Moby fan) that he has given up on pop-rock and too-clever-by-half samples and is back to doing club and mood music? His last record (LAST NIGHT) was really surprisingly satisfying, and I didn’t even know another record was happening this year — but I’ll look forward to it.
It sounds pretty good. It actually sounds like something that would be on Temporary Residence.
