Jarvis Cocker’s second solo album Further Complications comes out next month, and the first track to make its way out to the Internet is “Angela,” a bit of raucous rock with lyrics that are just naughty enough to inspire you to shake your ass while seated at your desk. (You might want to get up first, so as to not spill your coffee.)
“Angela” portends a slightly less glossy sound than the one all over Cocker’s first solo effort Jarvis, something which no doubt people will attribute to Steve Albini having his hands in the album’s engineering. I like to think that the sorta-sleazy come-ons Cocker’s employed here are just as responsible, but I could be wrong.

Yay, MP3s are back! And Jarvis, too.
@katles This redesign is paying dividends already!
Weirdly enough, this sounds like Urge Overkill.
Yay! New Jarvis! This means that Pulp’s not reuniting anytime soon (at least Candida and Steve are in his backing band), but this really, really made my day.
I gotta admit that this is not my favorite. I think he needs to eschew the minimalist production for something huge. Basically, I’m saying I wish it sounded like Pulp. I think he played this at P4k and killed it there.
I’m glad I don’t bear the burden of being a Pulp fan, and can actually enjoy his solo trip.
brilliant!
@Lucas Jensen I’m pretty sure he did, too. (I think this was the one he introduced by saying it was about “Big Julie’s sister” but I might be wrong about that.)
I am even more excited for this album now than I was before.
Disappointed that neither “Girls Like it Too” nor “Told You Twice” made the album. They were my faves when he played last summer.
@soundbitesnyc Aww, rats. I loved “Girls Like It Too.” B-sides, perhaps?
@brasstax
agreed! i have always liked pulp but was never that invested. have to say that i am latching on to the solo stuff more. probably in part due to timing and other reasons external to the music itself, but still.
@thearcanemodel I love the solo stuff, but, trust me, Pulp is better (and that’s not fair, really, because they have so much more material). I just think this song is pretty bland for him. It’s missing some oomph.
