Flaming Lips must have at least 3 distinct waves of fans. Originals, "She Don't Use Jelly" era, then Yoshimi-era. I came in at about stage 2.5 for The Soft Bulletin, which I think was underrated and has led to the overrating of Yoshimi.

But arguably this is band whose "prime" is actually pretty damn late in their career. I know there has to be at least one band that I was way late to the party on, but all the ones I can think of were so late they've broken up.

@whoneedslight Why is it that a bands greatness is inversely proportional to their popularity?

And secondly, why does this dark force not affect me, as I think their latest is monumental awesomeness?

You got to see Butthole Surfers, Seven Mary Three, Poe, The Refreshments, Toadies all in 1 day? That's pretty sweet (seriously).

I still rock The Refreshments "Banditos" a lot. I think these rock radio station festivals will unfortunately become a thing of the past but I had many similar moments of my youth at K-Rock (in NYC, not Syracuse) festivals.
