On a day when I found out that the possibility of slashing late-night subway service isn’t “off the table” as far as MTA budget-cutting tactics go, it sure was nice–if a little bittersweet–to read the story of the Duke Ellington Orchestra’s trip on the A train yesterday, during which the musicians played Ellington’s ode to the line in honor of what would have been the pianist/composer’s 110th birthday. 1. All the really fun stuff always happens when I’m at work…

  2. That MTA thing is just such a bummer on so many levels.

  3. @2ironic4u: i invite you all to come to chicago and experience the chicago transit authority in action. the el is shittier, slower, less reliable, runs less hours, less routes, and is out in the elements during winter. and they’re considering raising prices/cutting back routes. and we still pay $2 a ride. i shit you not, riding the DC Metro is like visiting Tomorrowland.

  4. @Chainsaw Dick: the heat lamps are a nice touch, but rarely enough on those bitter-cold nights.
