The question’s pretty simple, although to make things a little bit tougher, let’s say that the songs in question have to be about food, and not sexual metaphors for food. To get the inspirational juices (haha, get it?) flowing, here is “Eat It,” which is, of course, merely one of “Weird Al” Yankovic’s many songs devoted to gastronomy. After the jump, I survey many people for their thoughts, and post my favorite food-related disco jam:
A tragedy! And now, a few picks from some pals:
Christopher R. Weingarten, who gave me this idea: “Food,” Buck 65
Kate Richardson, fanfiction spelunker: “Sangria Wine,” Jerry Jeff Walker. (As a bonus, this video is instructional!)
Marah Eakin, publicist / Cavs fan: “Know Your Chicken,” Cibo Matto.
“Birthday Cake” works, too:
And more, from replies to a Twitter query I put out:
@gimmeshetler: “Mother Popcorn” by James Brown, “Beans And Cornbread” by Louis Jordan, “Soul Food” by Goodie Mob
@briannaorg: “Savoy Truffle” by The Beatles, “Candy Shop” by Andrew Bird, “Orange Crush” by R.E.M.
@tomewing: “Eat Yrself Fitter” by The Fall, “Breakfast” by The Associates, “C is for Cookie” by Cookie Monster
@popcesspool: “Der Weinerschnitzel” and “I Like Food,” The Descendents
@jezebelhortense: Savoy Truffle by the Beatles, Lollipop by the Chordettes, and Sugar, Sugar by the Archies.
There were also a lot of “Weird Al” mentions, of course. And more are coming in here, if you need inspiration!
Also, I know that the rules stated that the songs had to be about food and not food-sex metaphors, but it will kill me if I don’t post “Apple Pie” by White Trash before this weekend was over. Hey, rules were made to be broken, right?

“Cold Beverage” by G. Love & Special Sauce or “Chicken Soup with Rice” by Carole King and Maurice Sendak
Andrew W.K.’s Kit-Kat jingle. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=02AfiASP6yw
off the top of my head, it’s a tie between:
elvis presley – song of the shrimp
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3GUISm1-t60
&
dj oetzi – burger dance
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FZI99nwv9VA&feature=related
“Cherry Cola” by Eagles Of Death Metal is awesome, but Clutch references five of six different foodstuffs in “Wishbone”, so I’ll have to go with that.

WHITE TRASH! <3 There’s a reason why I love this blog.
Anyhow, yes. I agree with ‘Cold Beverage’.
I was on the one on twitter who said “Sour Cherry” by the Kills and a coupla others.
But I keep thinking of more that I love! “Marzipan” by Velocity Girl. “For the Price of a Cup of Tea” by Belle and Sebastian.
And then there were all the songs that I thought were about food but were actually associated with a food memory. Or I took something from the song and it made me think about food.
My favorite song about food is “I like waffles” by The Smedleys
I’m partial to “Burrito” by Pete Yorn
“Cheeseburger in Paradise” I DO like mine with lettuce and tomato, heinz 57 and french fried potatoes…
“Fish Heads” by …I have no idea.
Actually I take that back. “My Hands Are Bananas.”
@phaballa: barnes and barnes! (and bill paxton behind the camera in the video — http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cTpUVAcvWfU — as a big love stan, this news is SHOCKING AND AMAZING to me)
@phaballa: Perhaps you mean Fish Heads by barnes and barnes.

Another good song about food is “Give me a BLT and a Pepsi” by Cliff Bo and the Trail Riders.
oh man, how did i forget about ‘two triple cheese, side order of fries’?

weird al’s food album is chock full of awesome songs. “my bologna” and “i love rocky road.”
otherwise, i’d have to say the national’s “all the wine” and tool’s “die eier von satan.”

“Beans and Cornbread” is the winner, but a close second is “Chicken Necks” by Don & Juan. It’s the B-side to their doo-wop song “What’s Your Name,” and I know it from my mom’s old 45s. A sample lyric, including the chorus:
“On the weekend when I bring home my check
She fills the Frigidaire full of neck
Chicken head, chicken feet
Chicken necks is all I eat.”
It’s technically not ‘about’ food, but I have to go with “MacArthur Park” (Donna Summer version).
This is not strictly about food, but they reference a lot of foods that start with “L.”

I’d have to go with two great songs from Have Moicy! (Unholy Modal Rounders et al., 1976), meditating on both food and the digestion thereof: Michael Hurley’s “Slurf Song” and Jeffery Frederick’s “What Made My Hamburger Disappear?”
Great songs that use a food reference:
Dillinger Escape Plan – Sugar Coated Sour
Iron & Wine – Flightless Bird, American Mouth (that’s about chickens right?)
Radiohead – Packt Like Sardines in a Crushed Tin Box
Great songs actually about food:
Tom Waits – Eggs & Sausage
The Tabbouleh Song:

The Clash – Koka Kola
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L2d2a4Fsmng
Nobody for Willie Bobo’s “Fried Neckbones and Some Home Fries”? That’s a surprise. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pf1trlNM9vo (Sadly, I could only turn up the Santana version …)
Personally very partial to “French Toast” by Jonas Bonnetta (now Evening Hymns), because it’s the prettiest: http://radio3.cbc.ca/play/band/JONAS-BONNETTA/French-Toast/
Gin and Juice.
What, no Peaches?
“Bananas & Blow” – Ween
“Cheese Alarm” – Robyn Hitchcock
“Malted Milk” & “Hot Tamales” – Robert Johnson
“Double-Chocolate Malted+ – Jonathan Richman
I’m absolutely a latecomer to the party but Shonen Knife’s “Happy Hour” album (from 1998, I believe) is full of food tunes galore. A highlight, in my humble opinion, is Sushi Bar Song.
