Official “Tonight’s ‘American Idol’ Results Were Total BS” Thread

May 6th, 2009 // 27 Comments

We’ll have a full recap of tonight’s results show shortly, but for now, I’d like to say goodbye to Allison Iraheta, whose preternaturally aged voice, exquisite phrasing, and actual ability to be subtle will be greatly missed–especially since it means that we have to listen to Danny Freaking Gokey yarl on for another week at least.

Also, can I blame Perez a little bit for this, given that he reported the non-news that Allison had won a reality show a couple of years back on Thursday? I mean, people in the know were fully aware of this little bit of nontroversy, but the grand swath of idiots who only find out about “news” via his brightly colored ass and the collective mouth-breathing contingent of TMZ probably figured “she doesn’t need this” and sat on their hands. Boo. Boooooooo.

Oh well; at least Vicki agrees with me.

  1. please help us boycott american idol by NEVER WEARING GLASSES AGAIN, anyone who has vision problems!!

  2. @allyzay: they will know we have good taste by our klutziness.

  3. Consider my glasses stored away…permanently.

  4. this will be hard for me, because i don’t have contacts and can’t see very well, but i will try my best.

    (this is pareene btw.)

  5. At one point during Allison’s sing out, the camera cut to Gokey, and he had this look on his face that was like “I probably should have left. BUT I DIDN’T.”

I’m going to miss my girl. I would have settled for Gokey or Adam leaving if it meant that Allison got to stay.

  6. @Varina: i thought the look on his face was more “gargamel plotting against the smurfs”

  7. @allyzay: Whatever it was, I didn’t like it.

I’ll tell you what, though, Simon looked PISSED during the sing-out. But hey, they did this to Allison in part. I’m still baffled as to why she never caught on. If I was 14-16 watching the show, I’d think Kris was cute, but I’d be digging Allison as well.

  8. @Varina: i think the thing is, the other frontrunner besides danny “yaaaaaaaaaoooooow” gokey, is a gay man, so i think that is extra-galvenizing the born-again gospel channel vote that was already there for him. i didn’t really consider it — i figured allison was getting the girl power and the pervy 40 year old whose wife is forcing him to watch votes but i don’t think it was enough versus the super-motivated evangelist vote.

  9. the ultimate untapped resources for american idol that for me would be unbelievable episodes are:

    1) an mtv party-to-go episode, where contestants can only choose songs from the mtv party-to-go albums. while i do realize this is technically impossible due to licensing issues, hearing someone do “return of the mack” (the introductory “hooooooooooo-oh-oh-ahhh-ahhheeeeahhhh” would be SO worth it) against another contestant doing “pony” against another contestant doing “this is how we do it” against “no, no, no” and so on would be truly unbelievable. bill bellamy could be the guest. maybe even downtown julie brown. the sky is the limit.

    2) a g-funk era episode, where everyone tackles a different song with a nate dogg chorus. this allows not only for nate dogg to get more exposure and be the guest, but also for snoop to come on the show, for a hologram 2pac to grace us with his presence (if not the real thing) as we would need short verses b/w the nate dogg choruses, randy jackson to let out the ultimate “yo dogg! YO. yo dogg!”, and for us to hear the greatness that is nate dogg transposed through the voice of a 22-year-old indian man from north carolina (or something to that effect), which will make easy-e roll over in his grave enough times to provide electric power to a small section of compton, california.

  10. @Chainsaw Dick: i am intrigued by your ideas, “chainsaw dick,” and I hope to see them implemented,

  11. My favorite last night: Adam, Allison, Chris, Danny

Who would I pay to see in a large concert hall: Adam or Allison only

Who would I pay to see at a small venue: Chris or Matt

Who’se album would I buy: Allison or Danny

As long as Danny is not screeching, then he sounds pretty good (close your eyes to feel the smoky-groovy effect). Chris’ sound bores me, but he’s the most personable. Matt’s love of music would rub off on a small audience and bring smiles. Adam and Allison could throw a large concert hall into a tizzy.

  12. Will be voting for Kris now, if it means Gokey won’t be in the top two. I don’t even want to see him sing two songs next week.

  13. I think at this point, all we can hope for is all the angry Allison voters go Glambert because she was robbed by Danny……and then next week, when the bus rolls over Kris and Danny makes the final two over him, all the angry Kris fans remember Danny’s disgusting behavior this week during their duet, and go Glambert too.

I am very disappointed with America today.

  14. @Chainsaw Dick: What about a “feat. Lil Wayne” night for the top 3, where everyone gets him on a verse?

On another note, I’m a grown up. I understand that lipsyncing happens. But if you’re going to lipsync into a head mic, PAULA ABDUL, you should not then also lipsync into a microphone stand at the SAME time. It ruins the illusion.

  15. I wasn’t surprised; I had a feeling the top three was going to be a sausage fest (and was secretly amused by the idea).

It wasn’t her best performance. I had no issues with it, but my boyfriend HATED it with a burning, burning passion. So again, not surprised that she went home.

But the fact that I still have to watch Danny pains me. PAINS me.

  16. Alison never caught on because her main fan base seemed to be Internet gays, and no one else. Also because, as a very sweet 16 year old girl who’s a bit rambunctious, you’re going to kind of bottle yourself up, for fear of screwing things up, and you’re going to do what comes very naturally to you — high-quality AI singing — until you tear the house down with your goodbye performance.

Also, because Danny Gokey is the devil.

I think if Alison had been in the competition two years ago, she would have run away with the thing.

  17. Also, that recapper at EW.com is losing his damn mind and about to declare a fatwa.

  18. I came here hoping to see some good snark about Paula Abdul’s lip-sync and auto-tune fest. I half expected to see her somersault across the stage and choke Simon with her thighs, Bladerunner style (while still “singing”).

  19. Oops, sorry janinedm, I just realized you had posted some of the exact snark I was looking for.

  20. It’s amazing Paula never lost a note even while a dude was literally flipping her upside down.

Oh, and why not just have T-Pain mentor an auto-tune week? Isn’t that the future (or present) of pop music anyway?

  21. I had to watch this on DVR much, much later — I was watching the Caps lose a tough one in overtime against the Pens — and I was going to wait for the “recap” post, but…

I move that Idolator change its motto to: I’m Just Here For The Music

    Debate…

  22. @RobMurphy:

    Heartbreaking game. Completely unsatisfactory Wednesday.

  23. @pabrewdog: GOD WTF DOES THAT EVEN MEAN, YOU WOULD BUY DANNY’S ALBUM, “SCREAMIN W THE GOKEY”, BUT YOU WOULDN’T PAY MONEY TO WATCH HIM SING. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE? WHAT IS WRONG WITH AMERICA?

    THIS REALLY WARRANTED ALL-CAPS BTW.

  24. So disappointed. That’s all I can say. Now I feel it’s my DUTY to vote and to vote a lot for Kris and Glambert.

@allzay – on point with Gargamel.

  25. This was the first week that Allison showed any personality whatsoever. This was the first week I actually liked her.

  26. Fantasy baseball team name currently stands as “Sweatin’ to the Gokeys”
