Last night, someone leaked a couple of topless shots of the R & & B singer Cassie, who (To the left, a crop of one of the pics; you can check them out in toto here, if you aren’t in an office that frowns on that sort of thing.) Almost immediately after the normal Internet freakouts that always accompany getting to see someone with even the vaguest hint of celebrity unclothed began, Cassie confirmed that yes, it was her in the photos, while taking a second to get mildly peevish about them on Twitter:
I’d be more annoyed that the chattering classes were more interested in head-shaving escapades and “leaked” (cough) topless shots than the new single that you put out a month ago, but perhaps the plan is to reel people in with the nudes, and then do a bait and switch of sorts? And to think I thought that Sean Combs’ reclamation of the “Puff Daddy” name would have made people interested…

To be fair to her, her response WAS awesome and her songs should be heard some way or another, ’cause they’re pretty good (”Official Girl” aside. Woof!)- I like so much of the leaked material from this album project.

I’m not totally sure it’s cool to just go around accusing women who say they’ve had naked pictures of themselves stolen and spread around of doing it themselves for attention. Even if you don’t like the music.
If you don’t feel sympathetic I could see not posting, but I’m pretty sure you’re a bad person now and no takebacks.

I dunno, I kinda wish she was more like “Yes, the photos are real and my tits look great, don’t they?” These defensive celeb responses to the evil Internet are getting increasingly tiresome.
I wonder if there was anything else on Cassie’s computer that was stolen. Only time (and the next single release) will tell, I s’pose.
Also, I’m happy to see that the new commenting reg isn’t attracting any stans or crazies.

Maura, I’m pretty sure you’re wrong here. There is a third picture out, and it’s Cassie naked with her legs spread wide open. I don’t care how cynical you are trying to seem, but Cassie didn’t take that picture to secretly fake-leak to build up publicity for her album.
Cassie ft. the-dream “keep on lovin me” is incredible and I hope it actually gets released as a single, p.s.
@chachwitablog: well, this post was written before the third one came out. when the photos were just the topless ones, the plausibility that their leaking was somehow internal (and by internal i don’t just mean by her, i mean by people working her record) was much higher.
