You know, I thought the THC-filled patriotism splashed across the cover of Frobama: Head Of State–the new album by the chronically high, Grammy-nominated Afroman–was going to be the best thing about today. But then Jeff Rosenthal said to me “Someone just said that he made ‘Because I Got High 2009′?,” and things brightened a little bit more.





Well, at least his proclivity for getting high hasn’t rendered him inert enough to not realize that re-re-re-merchandising yourself is never a bad idea. Why, just take a listen to “Because I Got High 2007,” which Afroman self-released, complete with Asher Roth-predicting cover!





Yep, it’s the same song–with just a title tweak. Even the Doritos-crunching is still there! And the choking fit! Shenanigans, or a sign that sometimes, Highdeas can be pretty profitable with very little effort? It’s a point to ponder! So in honor of that ingenuity–and those “la de da da da da”s being permanently lodged in my brain–let’s take a listen to the original, back when Afroman had things like video production budgets:
