The title of Amerie’s first album on Def Jam has been changed from Breakups To Makeups to In Love And War, and the first single is the pleading ballad “Why R U,” on which Amerie struggles through her feelings for a dude who’s not all that nice, when all is said and done. To these ears, it sounds like a slightly reworked take on her mixtape-only ballad “Get Gone,” which didn’t appear on Amerie’s ill-fated final album for Columbia, Because I Love It; it’s got a smooth early-’90s R & B feel, and it’s certainly made me curious about what the rest of the album–which is being produced by LA Reid, in part–will sound like.
