Maxwell Is Ready To Get Back Into Bed

May 26th, 2009 // 7 Comments

After a lengthy absence, the Brooklyn-born soul singer Maxwell returned to the spotlight when he saluted Al Green at last year’s BET Awards, and he followed up that appearance with a short tour last fall. His first full-length since 2001′s Now comes out in July, and it’s actually one part of a larger project; BLACKsummersnight is actually a three-album suite that he’s going to release over the next three years. (Parts two and three will be called, respectively, blackSUMMERS’night and blacksummers’NIGHT.) “Pretty Wings,” above, is the first single from the first installment in the trilogy, and it’s bittersweetly sexy, with silky horns backing up Maxwell’s laments over a love that had to be lost. 1. I like that a lot. But…three albums? Man, I don’t want to sit through 3 albums of anybody, much less Maxwell.

  2. Man, I’d buy 15 albums of this song. Someone keep Maxwell from disappearing for 7 years ever again.

  3. @Maura: Noooo!! He’s not coming here!

  4. @slowburn: hmm, no california dates at all! that’s kinda weird. maybe something is afoot?
