@poisonous: look, there's no doubt that adam is insanely talented. but boil the essence of the two singers down, and you'll see that one person is a lot more in tune with current commercial trends than the other, and it's NOT the person who garnered comparisons to the scissor sisters and mika during his ascent. i like adam a lot, but kris' win is wholly unsurprising.

@Maura: You will see a major announcement from AI about a change in voting procedure before the next season. Never has there been such a disparity in talent to show that the voting is not based on talent but on regional efforts by groups with their own agendas.

I hate when news (or “news”) outlets that have little-to-no business talking about idol attempt it. Salon.com did it recently, the pop-culture writer bragging about how he’d never watched idol until this season (sorry, you’re a pop culture writer, and yet you ignore one of the biggest things to hit pop culture in the last decade? Really?). Then he attempted to talk about idol having clearly done little to no research about the show or it’s history. Of course, the commentors merely sneered that he had the gall to write about something so trashy in the first place, declaring it “proof of the end of salon!” and declaring they would “cancel their subscription immediately!”

I feel like part of the reason this year we’re seeing outlets that traditionally ignore, if not turn their noses up at Idol trying to write about it (beyond the desperate need for page hits) is because of the producer’s thwarted attempt at making this a “Culture War” finale.
It just makes me more thankful that they failed to get their way.

Your dismissal of this impropriety is reckless and gutless.
Considering that the total vote was about 98 millions and change
and that 38 millions of those votes came out of Arkansas which has a total population of 2.3 million people that accounted for nearly 40 %
of the nationwide vote. I dare to say that the voting is flawed and unfair not only to Adam but to Allison and danny as well.
Kris knows its a empty win, and because he is a humble and nice kid he feels uncomfortable to no fault of his own. The first words out of his mouth were that Adam should it won it.

However, the DialIdol votes were only separated by 1.1% – close enough that even they didn’t want to call it in favor of Kris.

I routinely chastise Idol fans for not buying the albums. They all pledge allegiance, but only a fraction shell out of the music.
