Dinosaur Jr. Take A Ride

Dinosaur Jr’s’ video for “Over It,” shot during some downtime on their tour this spring, is a sweet spin on the old-school “skateboard wipeout” video, one in which lead Dinosaur J Mascis even gets to show off one of the skateboard decks crafted in his band’s honor. (The matching kicks are a nice touch, too.) Somehow I missed this song, which appears on the band’s forthcoming album Farm, until this morning, and I am pretty annoyed with myself for doing so, as it has provided me a nice little bit of Adidas in my proverbial ass, thanks in large part to the heroic drumming of the band’s skinsman, Murph. It’s funny. I was thinking to myself how, despite their brush with ‘fame’ in the ’90s, Dinosaur Jr. could be one of the most underrated ’90s bands. I love them so much. Thanks for the reminder!

J shreds so hard. This rules.

Heard this record the yesterday in my local record shop — sounded just as good as Beyond, if not better. Can. Not. Wait.

It’s gonna be big with the 33+ set. Easily Beyond’s equal and as much as I LOVED the SST-ish cover art for Beyond, this walking weed-tree paintings for the new one are gonna pretty much require me to buy it on wax….

What a swell song. And I think I saw Mike Watt in that vid.

I think just about anyone that’s really into good music and digs on bands that have a solid punch and cool riffs are going to get into this, regardless of the age range they are slotted into ;) What struck me about “Beyond” is how well it could have fit into their “classic” period and how, despite their sound being unchanged for the most part, that factor somehow made them sound just as fresh and vital. I’m normally not a fan of reunion records, but “Beyond” proved to me that older bands can, in fact regroup and churn out something totally rock solid and this album so far, sounds like another in the winning streak for the brothers Dino, and I can only hope J feels like kicking a few more out before kicking Lou out (again.)
