Trent Reznor stands up and says “web 2.no,” thanks to anonymous harassment on the microblogging service Twitter: “I will be tuning out of the social networking sites because at the end of the day it’s now doing more harm than good in the bigger picture and the experiment seems to have yielded a result. Idiots rule…. we’re in a world where the mainstream social networks want any and all people to boost user numbers for the big selloff and are not concerned with the quality of experience.” [nin.com]

Doesn’t this stem from some incident involving a charity for #eric: http://mashable.com/2009/05/28/trent-reznor-helps-fan/
Apparently, some twitterer says that the whole #eric thing is a fake and Trent don’t like that. Or something.

@Lucas Jensen: it’s that, but it’s also people bugging him about posting about being in love.
On one hand, I sympathize with having to deal with legions of disappointed fanboys/stalkers/crazies/etc.
On the other, I have no idea how he didn’t see this coming a mile away. His current business model pretty much assumes and depends on that said legion supporting him.
I kind of like following select celeb-types on twitter because many of them are often funny, and I like funny. I hope experiences like Reznor’s don’t chase all of them away, although it’s clear some super-fans/anti-fans simply don’t know how to behave.
