dulli-apollonia-colorFrom the Dept. Of Holy Whoa What?!: Hats off to Spin for bringing Greg Dulli’s Twilight Singers together with Apollonia–yes, that Apollonia–for a mournfully menacing, piano-heavy cover of “When Doves Cry.” It’s part of their upcoming Purple Rain tribute comp, which was put together in honor of the mag’s July cover story: An oral history of the movie and its soundtrack that was put together by former Idolator head honcho Brian Raftery. The comp will also include Of Montreal’s take on “Computer Blue” and Sharon Jones probably murdering (in a good way, duh) “Take Me With U.” [Spin]

Don't forget Apollonia was on the Twilight Singers's cut "Teenage Wristband" from the "Blackberry Belle" album. I actually asked Dulli about what he thought of Prince's last big tour in 2003. He pretty much said he was over Prince, and thought he was milking that tour by telling everyone it was his last. Today I guess it looks like Prince was telling the truth, unlike Kiss, The Who, Stones, etc...

Of Montreal busted out a great live version of "Computer Blue" at Sasquatch two weeks ago - the crowd ate it up.
  • This is the week for awesome Dulli-related covers, isn't it? What with Mark Lanegan's version of "Tonight" earlier this week (http://stereogum.com/archives/mark-lanegan-cove...)

I knew I was maintaining a SPIN subscription for a reason. July issue can't hit my mailbox soon enough.

This is a lot of fun. Dulli and Apollonia's vocals work together far better than I thought they would have. Also, Apollonia is wonderful.

Can't wait to hear Chairlift's take on "Darling Nikki."
  • I'm most excited for Craig Wedren's "Baby I'm a Star"
