Some day, The New York Times‘ Sunday magazine will cover a musician who isn’t beloved by NPR, who isn’t on a major indie. This weekend, alas, will not see that day. (The title of the piece about Stuart Murdoch’s God Help The Girl project does sum up the sort of schmindie the NYTM likes to cover, though: “More Songs About Feelings And Women.” Tee hee!) [NYT]

  1. It all went downhill when Isobel Campbell left Belle and Sebastian. That’s my story, and I’m sticking to it. Not a good piece, really: underwritten in many places, desperately overwritten in others.

  2. @nicksweeney: I don’t know. I think the Life Pursuit is perhaps their second best album.

  3. @Lucas Jensen: Agreed! And that Dear Castrophe Waitress is > The Boy With The Arab Strap, by one or two songs.

This one though, has yet to really grab me, except for Mary’s Market (which I think is a b-side?), and I still don’t like the “Funny Little Frog” re-do, because I can’t stop thinking it sounds like Joss Stone covering B&S.
