By the way, I’m not trying to start some big to-do here. I was just leaving a snarky comment to express my honest-to-god befuddledness (is that a word?) of this whole Lady Gaga thing. I just listened to some clips from her album, by the way, as to not be entirely in the dark. And I am left no less confused.

@brasstax: It’s not that I’m claiming she’s a flop. It’s just that, despite seeing her on magazine covers, paparazzi photos, and stories on websites sites about her crazy clothes and sunglasses and general “wildness”, I have yet to hear even a single note of her music. And if I have (unknowingly), damned if it was memorable enough for me to care whether or not it was the blonde with the sparkly jumpsuits.

Take Katy Perry. She’s completely ubiquitous in the media, just like GaGa. And yet I’m fully aware of her music. Same goes for Amy Winehouse. Miley Cyrus, even (and Lily Allen and Britney and Christina et cetera et cetera). Because for as much media attention that those people get for everything else they do, a percentage actually involves their body of work. Yet it seems to me, ignorant though I may be on the subject, that Lady Gaga exists solely to be fodder for bloggers and gossip magazines. And they eat it up.
