Chris Brown has released a two-minute videotaped statement apologizing for the domestic violence incident involving him and Rihanna that took place over Grammy weekend earlier this year. In the statement, Brown says that he’s going against the advice of his attorneys to apologize both to Rihanna and his fans, and that he’s actively working to seek help so he can once again deserve the term “role model.” He seems pretty impassioned, and he notes that he’s personally apologized to Rihanna “countless” times. Hmmm…this video seems a bit suspect. Did he need the nearly six months that have elapsed since the incident to realize how sorry he was? Of course he’s impassioned, a scandal like this could seriously mess with his cash flow. I’m guessing that if his record company were trying to release his new album in a year this apology would have come at a much later date. But no, they’ve been trying to get a single out since early summer. It’s the record company scrambling to rehab his image, plain and simple.
Are we taking bets as to whether or not there were will a couple slow, introspective yet nebulous jams reflecting on the incident and how it’s changed him? Blegh, the whole thing turns my stomach.
@devilish: I’m going to chalk the bulk of his delay up to his lawyers — didn’t he only plead out last month?
But yeah, this all turns my stomach too. ugh.
I’m really not looking forward to his “comeback” singles and/or album…
This was so sincere, straight from the heart…of the teleprompter!
