The mysterious Swedish outfit that goes by the name jj included a drugged-out, female-fronted flip of Lil Wayne’s “Lollipop” on its Pitchfork-beloved album jj n° 2 called “Ecstasy.” You will probably not be surprised to learn that in this scribe’s opinion, this take on Lil Wayne’s No. 1 hit beats Framing Hanley‘s by about eleventy billion miles. i appreciate the flip of the lollipop sample, and the play on rap themes in the title of their other single, “my life, my swag”, but i just really cannot get down with this balearic shit
i love this record. as with all these Sincerely Yours outfits, they’re getting Saint Etienne comparisons, but there’s something vaguely Everything But the Girl-ish about the jj record that really appeals to me.
