Jay-Z Has A Secret Machine Working In His Art Department

August 3rd, 2009 // 7 Comments

Jay-Z’s artwork for his forthcoming Blueprint 3 was released to the world today, and it’s something like a Rorschach test: Everyone sees something different in it!

First, the cover.

Friend of Idolator Reed Fischer noted that the “white instruments on a white background” motif had been previously utilized by the Secret Machines on their 2004 album Now Here is Nowhere:

And then we have the multiple lines of U2′s most recent album No Line On The Horizon:

And then there is the “stark background with striking red element” motif of Jay collaborator Kanye West’s 808s and Heartbreak

It’s like a Frankenstein of other album covers that actually made their way into big-box stores over the past five years! Feel free to share what you see in the Blueprint 3 cover here.

  1. I see a gardena snake eating a Ford Taraus. What does that say about my relationship with my parents?

  2. I don’t even care who he’s ripping off – i love how this cover is all “fuck the rap-album cover standards.”

  3. @How do I say this…Throwdini!?!: Sometimes a Photoshop filter is just a Photoshop filter.

  4. Awww, Jay wants to be a rock star.

Bill again on the first place… But I think he’ll be on first place only for a year or two more.
