Charlotte Hatherley Cleans Up Real Nicely

August 11th, 2009 // 10 Comments

The first taste of New Worlds, the third solo album from Bat For Lashes/Ash guitarist Charlotte Hatherley, has hit iTunes today, and to say that I recommend it would be an understatement. “White” is a low-end-heavy plea to a lover that represents something of a departure from the shimmering pop that characterized her previous album The Deep Blue, but it’s ultimately satisfying, particularly when the background “ooohs” swoop in on the song’s chorus. A video for the track, in which Hatherley shows off her ability to lip-sync in reverse while getting doused with brightly colored paints, after the jump.

  1. They play this single on NME Radio all day and I love it! She’s also really sexy :)

  2. I can’t wait to listen to this (but I’m stuck at the office and can’t until I get home).

    I really love Hatherley’s other band, Client, quite a bit, too.

  3. @ChrisB.: “Hatherley’s other band, Client…”

    huh?

  4. She’s “Client C” in a really sexy British synth pop band called Client.

  5. @ChrisB.: Holy crap, I had NO IDEA.

  6. This song is fantastic. Thank you, Maura. Also since I couldn’t log in yesterday I didn’t get to express my depression over Ida Maria’s association with Perez Hilton. I listen to her album constantly and it pains me greatly that she’s even with a 100 foot radius of his noxious fumes.

  7. @ChrisB.: yeah, but referring to it as her band is odd. It’s kind of like referring to New Order as Billy Corgan’s other band.

  8. Sal

    @ChrisB.:
    No she isn’t!! That’s not her.

    This song is awesome, I love Chaz.

  9. @Sal: I guess I misread her bio from her website where it said: “Adding to her frenzied schedule she has also been playing guitar with Mr Roxy Music, Sir Bryan Ferry, and Electro vixens Client, AS WELL as DJ-ing whenever the hell she can in London Town.”

    @krisskraft – I didn’t mean to imply it was “her band” like she writes all of the songs and sings them, but just that she’s a member of that band, ie “Let’s go see Tom’s band tomorrow night”, even if “Tom” just plays bass.

  10. @ChrisB.: Touring member and member are quite different things. Just ask Darryl Jones.

    Personally, I like her other band, Bryan Ferry, better.
