depeche-mode-144x120Depeche Mode has canceled tonight’s show at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, Calif., because vocalist Dave Gahan has reportedly been ordered to embark on 48 hours of complete vocal rest by a physician. This is the second time that shows on the band’s current world tour have been canceled for medical reasons; this spring, a low-grade tumor was discovered on Gahan’s bladder and the band canceled a series of shows in Europe. As of now, the band’s next show—scheduled for Friday in San Diego—is still on. [SFGate]

  1. Crap. I paid a boatload to sit up close at Sunday’s Hollywood Bowl show. I am geeked to see the greatest band of all time playing at LA’s best (larger) venue. And was considering paying to see them again Tuesday at the Honda Center in the OC. Please, please, please get well soon Dave.

Yeah, I’m pretty much crossing my fingers at this point (I’m in for Sunday as well albeit at the back of the venue!)

And FWIW, this is the third time this tour — a couple of the last European shows before coming over here were because Dave’s wrecked his leg a bit:

I was worried they wouldn’t make it to Lolla this past weekend between all the injuries then the thunderstorms that were predicted to hit right when they would be on stage but it all worked out. They were fantastic.
