Madonna’s Four Minutes (To Save Her Set) Run Out

madontyaMadonna’s video for her greatest-hits package’s lead single “Celebration” was released today, and it’ll be available as a free download via iTunes through Thursday. One might think that said decision was justified by whoever makes these sorts of calls because of its seeming near-lack of a production budget, but as it turns out, the video was directed by “Ray Of Light” helmsman Jonas Akerlund. The stark backgrounds that Madonna and her fellow celebrants have been placed against look like they’re supposed to represent the aftermath of last year’s black-hole-tastic clip for “4 Minutes”; although there’s no Justin Timberlake to be found, Madonna’s current boy toy Jesus Luz makes a cameo appearance as a DJ, and Daughter Of The Material Girl Lourdes “Lola” Leon also makes an appearance. Clip after the jump.

Meanwhile, prolific music-video director Joseph Kahn has made a play to direct Madge’s next clip, saying via Twitter, “Madonna, I am your demon directing spawn who knows how to take care of you. Enough with the Swedes & their white walls. Call me.” Hey, he did direct Britney Spears’ clip for “Toxic”…

  1. Yeah, this was filmed on tour, so there’s not much to it… though there’ll be a second video with totally different footage for the original song, rather than the dodgy remix.

Fun, and the free download is a good idea, but kinda lousy – Warner aren’t exactly pulling out all the stops promoting Celebration, huh.

  2. Am I alone in saying I didn’t need quite that much Madge crotch?

Which one’s Lola — the girl with long braids?

  3. acceptable for a video she didn’t want to be a part of – the single is so 90 eurogay trance

bring on the live nation release M!

and stop using jonas – mr. kahn could do her right!

  4. @Chris Molanphy: Yeah, I was like, great, she’s not wearing like hot pants and a bra this time! And then she literally had to open her legs.

Also, why does she need to have Mr. Madonna in there? In 3 months when everything’s over with him, she’ll be soooo embarassed.

  5. yea that jesus part is PAINFUL – in his defence hes beautiful – not as beautiful as that Balmain dress and Loubatain thigh highs she’s wearing tho – YUM

  6. @thumper: But what’s so wrong with just a little eurogay trance once in a while, I ask?

At least is well-executed eurogay and she didn’t end sounding like Cascada or something!

  7. This just made me think of Ethel Merman’s disco album. Go home and count your money, Madonna. For all our sakes.

  8. @fre2daa: Nothing wrong with 90s eurogay trance. Nothing at all.

Sheepishly, I have to admit I kind of like the song.

  9. @pdfreeman: Zing! And amen.

  10. @Chris Molanphy: It must be the stadium tour. She has to make sure her grinds play to the back of the house.

  11. Not sure who this video is for, other than her already fully committed fans. This track is a re-mix and they are supposedly releasing the orig-mix video/single later. Madonna is demanding a LOT of attention, especially when she gives us this clip that seems designed to let us know that she barely cares anymore. Why should we?
