Mariah Carey Wants The World To Know What Love (For Her) Is

butterfliesNot content with plundering the songbooks of years ago, Mariah Carey has moved on to re-creating her Sony-era photo shoots as the release date of Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel looms ever nearer. Above, a side-by-side comparison of the cover for her 1997 album Butterfly and a just-released photo shoot in which she pretty much looks the same, albeit with slightly lighter lipstick. And this isn’t even the first time she’s engaged in some time travel during this album’s promotional cycle!

Behold, the ad for her concerts at the Palms Casino in Las Vegas, which kick off tonight. The ad is supposed to recall the cover of her breakthrough single “Visions Of Love,” which—if you can believe it—turns 20 next year:

One thing you have to say about Mariah: She isn’t really known for her subtlety. I wonder if this means we should look forward to yet another song sampling something that sounds similar to “Genius Of Love” to be a last-minute addition to her album?

Is it wrong that she does this? What’s your point? You simply find inane things to bitch about her. You’re a genuine hater aren’t you? Well, I’m sorry but there are people like me who loves her no matter what you say.

I know you’re a HARDCORE Beatles fan. You’re mortified at the though that she might just break their records. I understand your actions. You got to do what it takes to prevent that, huh? Way off base? I’m sorry. Here I am again . . .

@barnok: I agree. Carey has been looking and sounding the same every damn time for thirty years. Why start picking on her now!

@barnok: My point is that it’s kind of pathetic. There’s an old phrase, “mutton dressed as lamb,” that applies here and has an extra layer of irony. You might want to look it up!

You also might want to look up what bands I am a HARDCORE fan of, since you are off the mark. I have no stake in Mariah fans’ crazy “Beat The Beatles” quest, aside from thinking that it’s pretty silly.

@maura I’m sorry if I am off the mark with my supposition that you’re a hardcore Beatles fan. I was fishing. I’m doing that because I can’t find a reason why you have to constantly pick on her. You now even accept that this post has nothing to do with her music . . . but the way she dresses. She’s not 80 years old you know. She looks good and looks comfortable with what she is wearing right now. What’s wrong with that? Are you implying that if you are a cougar, you’d wear a dowdy dress because that’s what’s appropriate to your age? I see a lot of artists her age who dresses worse, why don’t you police them too? This is a music blog right? Or are you trying to be PerezHilton albeit with brains?
